I’m always so bad at building anticipation! Well, with little notice and absolutely no ado, I present the first in a series of instrumental pieces I’ve been working on for some time now, Daydream Sketches, Vol. 1. The idea behind the Daydream Sketches series is to capture the emotional feel of a particular moment in spacetime. I hope that each piece sets a mood and conjures vivid images of a scene. I’m very excited for this series and a number of future releases are in the works.

You may recall my post earlier this year about my renewed interest in the clarinet. As promised, clarinet plays a subtle but important role in the arrangemnet of track 2, Blustery Day.  Expect to hear more clarinet in future Daydream Sketches releases, as well as a variety of other wind instruments with which I have been working.

The album cover photo was taken by my good frequent and frequent collaborator Juan Guerrero. More of his work will be featured in the deluxe edition which will be made available shortly on Bandcamp at a slightly discounted rate. The deluxe version will feature full pdf liner notes, individual track artwork(also courtesy of Juan), and accompanying vignettes! Very exciting stuff so be sure to stay tuned!

happy netlabel day!

Happy Netlabel Day one and all! As I mentioned in an previous post, this year I will be contributing a track to a Captive Portal remix album, In the Air (The Remixes). I’m very excited to be a part of this release along such names as Fire to the Stars, who I remixed for last years Netlabel Day, John Alden Davis, with whom I briefly attended Greenville University, Captive Portal himself, and so many other talented artists/producers! So, without further ado, here it is: available for free download on the Mahorka website!

captive portal, zach bridier, and a(nother) netlabel day remix release

If you are a fan of my music, by now you’ve probably heard of Captive Portal, the name under which my good friend Zach Bridier releases music. If not, let me give you a brief rundown: I’m featured on many of his songs, last year he produced my album Retroflux, and we have played some great shows together, most recently in our band, Sunsailor. Zach has also been a major supporter of netlabels, internet record labels, as well as proponent of the recently started Netlabel Day. Over the past year, Zach has kept himself busy by founding and operating his Netlabel Archive, which aims to restore and archive releases from netlabels which have gone offline. This project is a massive undertaking, but he has already made incredible progress by restoring releases from nine different labels, with more planned on the way! He has also been very productive with his project Captive Portal, releasing four EPs in December alone! Last year was the first Netlabel Day, for which Zach released a remix of the song Keep You Safe by Fire to the Stars on a special release by the netlabel Mahorka. The second annual such celebration of netlabels is coming this July. This year, Zach has something even bigger planned: an entire album of remixes of his songs by some of his favorite collaborators and artists(also to be released on the Mahorka label). I was fortunate enough to be able to contribute a remix of the song Oak Bloke. For this remix, I added just a touch of my new clarinet playing to make the remix a bit more unique. My remix will be made available with the rest of the remixes on July 14th. On top of that all, today is Zach’s birthday! I’d like to say happy birthday to Zach and thank him for all the help he has given me with my own music over the years! Make sure to check out his music and his other projects. He is always up to good things and I would definitely expect to hear something from Captive Portal soon.

It will be coming soon to Spotify, Amazon, and many more over the next weeks updates will follow as they happen! I just wanna take a second to thank some of the key people who helped me finish this album: Zach Bridier, Erick Perez, my dad, my Gia, and everyone over at Schnauz Records. I really couldn’t have done it without you.
